...but seriously, I love useful apps. Useful apps make smartphones 'smart'. The app is free and tracks viruses that are going around by zip code. Results that are pulled from Athena's healthcare database of 15 million patient records. It can be viewed by specimen type and then paired with Epocrates' drug content to help make prescription decisions.
I think it is important for Doctors to know if there's an epidemic in there area. However, to know whether it's an epidemic the app basically counting the number of patients reported with a bug. I presume before the app registers this information the doctor's will already notice that a particular strain is high. Let's look at reviews so far because that's how I know whether an app is worthy.
"This is a very pretty app, but there's too much incorrect information. Vancomycin for pseudomonas? Gentamicin for group a strep? Please do not guide any treatment based on this app!!"
"That is absolutely outrageous and UNACCEPTABLE!!!
If an inexperienced clinician looks at that and decides to treat pseudomonas bacteremia with ceftriaxone because it says "100%" susceptible...that's beyond malpractice!
Whoever consulted on this app OBVIOUSLY knows NOTHING about antibiotics!!!! "
Alrighty then... This app is basically just to know how many Athena patients are being reported for a particular bug and it's very pretty.
